Strong evidence that John L. is the son of the David Huddleston that left the 1786 will is present in the 1790 and 1800 Rutherford County, NC federal census recordings. Only one John Huddleston family is recorded in 1790 with two sons less than 16 years of age. This is most likely the John listed as David's son in the 1786 will. However two senior John Huddleston families (head of household greater than 45 years of age) are recorded in the 1800 census. One family recorded on census page 115 has four sons between ages 10 and 16 and cannot possibly be the John Huddleston family recorded in the 1790 census. The family recorded on page 119 is John L. Huddleston's family and maps to the 1790 family very well. Thus John L. Huddleston is most likely the son of the David Huddleston that left the 1786 will.
Local legend as per Mrs. Maurine Ensor Patton says that John L. settled in White Co., TN but then headed back to NC and was never heard from again.
Note: JOHN L. HUDDLESTON was possibly born about 1755 in Rutherford County, NC, and died in Tennes
