Note:   General in the war of the restoration of independence from Spain (1864-65). Served with General Duverge. Emigrated from Europe via Venezuela. After orphaned, went with his brother to Santo Domingo to live with Archbishop of Santo Domingo (Tomas de Portes Infante). Other family left Spain for Turkey. Descended from "conversos" or "marranos" (also known as crypto-Jews). Family nickname was "Papa Liz". After the war, he was a ´talabarteroír that is, a person who deals in leather used for chair, horses´rains, etc. Had a store in the market in Santiago. The whole family lived in an old house (cason) on the 16 de Agosto in Santiago, four members of the family are buried there. When the family moved to the house on Benito Moncion (across from the cathedral) he refused to go and it was just before he died that he moved to the other house where he died but buried in the old house. Had 6 children by his first marriage (4 girls, 2 boys - the girls moved to Puerto Rico, never married, and had no children). Had a brother named Ramon, parents were Juan Pablo Liz and Dolores Castellon
