ABERNATHY The following article is from an undated issue of "The LaFayette {ALABAMA} Sun": THE THIN GRAY LINE PASSES IN REVIEW That we may not forget the heroes who fought our battles of yore, and who crowned themselves with everlasting honor, The Sun will furnish this column for a short sketch of the lives of these great and good men. Born in DeKalb County, Georgia, January 9th, 1839; moved to the Rock Springs community, Chambers County, Alabama, when about four years of age. At the age of 23, he was married to Miss LAURA AWILDA MILFORD, November 28, 1861, at the residence of PHILLIP MILFORD, Chambers County, Alabama. Enlisted in the Confederate army in spring of 1862, Company "I" 47th AL Reg; served under both General JACKSON and General LEE; was at Appomattox Court House at time of surrender of General ROBERT E. LEE. No deaths have been recorded in this family to date; Mr. ABERNATHY, his wife, and six children born to them, are all living: LAURA A. F. ABERNATHY, Buffalo, Chambers County, AL; MINNIE L. M. (Mrs. J. M. MALEY) Columbus, GA; J. R. B. ABERNATHY, LaFayette, Chambers County, AL; VANAMA B. V. ABERNATHY, Buffalo, Chambers County, AL; SAMUEL F. D. ABERNATHY, Roanoke, Randolph County, AL; MARTHA O. V. (Mrs. W. H. HOUSE) Buffalo, Chambers County, AL. Mr. ABERNATHY has been a member of the Missionary Baptist church for almost sixty years, and has ben a citizen of Chambers County, AL, for eighty-one years.
