a. Note:   Served with Hines´┐Ż Mississippi Dragoons in the War of 1812. He was disfigured by a sword cut on his face and retreated to the wilderness, where he built a four-room cabin on Sandy Creek. Home was expanded and named Courtland by his niece Adaline Swayze Baker. See The Old House, by Catharine Van Court. (It is now part of the Homochitto National Forest, Van Court, p. 116).
