Marriage: Children:
  1. (Sheriff) Piers II De MAULEY: Birth: BEF. 1226 in Mulgrave Castle, Sandsend/Whitby, Yorkshire, ENGLAND. Death: BEF. 15 Jul. 1279 in Nether Hallam Manor, West Ride Yorkshire, ENGLAND

a. Note:   NOTE: His parentage is unknown. He is also known as Piers de Malo Lacu. He may have been a Poitevin by birth, brought up in the retinue of King John and enriched by him. In 1205 he received land formerly belonging to Guy de Laval, and in 1206/07 he received land in Wilden, Bedfordshire, for his maintenance in the King's service. In 1211 he was named among the King's evil advisers. In 1215 he was in the King's service at Corfe, and in November, 1213, he was one of the King's envoys at the court of Rome. In 1214, the King granted him the marriage of Isabel de Turnham, her father's whole inheritance falling to her. It was reported that he acquired this marriage as a reward for having murdered Prince Arthur of Brittany in 1203, but this may be doubted because he was assessed the large sum of 7000 marks for the marriage. In right of his wife, he acquired the numerous lands comp;rising the Fossard fee in Yorkshire, which in 1166 had amounted to over 33 knights' fees. In 1215 the care of the King's son, Richard, was committed to him, doubtless at Corfe Castle. In 1217 he was summoned to Westminster to show why, within the truce between him and the earl of Salisbury, he took and threw down the castle of Hugh Peverel. He was the builder of Mulgrave Castle, Yorkshire. In 1241 he was on crusade to the Holy Land. * Change Date: 28 MAY 2002 Marriage 1 Isabel de Turnham * Married: ABT 1214 1 Children 1.
