James Daugherty and Mary Ann Cramer Daugherty moved from his Pennsylvania birthplace to Greene County, Ohio. They had nine children. Records show they married in 1833. It was probably earlier, as the U.S. Census shows Andrew being born in 1831. James was in the milling business, being a linseed oil maker and roll carder. His sons followed in the milling trade. They then moved with their family to Montgomery County, Indiana in 1841, first locating at Darlington, then in Crawfordsville, and finally in Ladoga in 1844. His mother, Nancy Kenney Daugherty, came to live with him in Ladoga. One record shows he died in 1897, not '77. One of James' sons went west and was a guide for Teddy Roosevelt on a trip. A moose head they shot and a hat of Teddy's hung over Til's family home at 3440 Central Avenue in Indianapolis. 1850 U.S. CENSUS (Roll 161 - Indiana, Montgomery Co., Clark Twp, p. 506) JAMES DAUGHERTY, 42, Miller, $5,000, PA MARY A., 42, MD ANDREW W., 19, Miller, OH CATHERINE M., 17, OH; Frances N., 15, OH; Josiah N., 13, OH; Lucinda, 11, OH; SOLOMON C., 10, OH; James M., 8 OH; ---> Maria E., IN; Mary J., 3, IN; JOHN, 4/12, IN JOHN BRYANT, 23, Miller, VA(?) ------> Also, on page 516: JAMES DAUGHERTY, 48, Farmer, $3,000, KY MARY A., 44, KY WILLIAM, 18, IN; Nancy L., 16, IN; Catherina E. 15, IN; Minerva E. 10, IN; JAMES E., 8, IN [Brderbund WFT European Origins Vol. E1, Ed. 1, Tree #0447, Date of Import: Dec 30, 2003]
