Moses "Morris" Oxman, called "Moishe", was a furrier. The name Oxman, in Russia, was Oksman or Aksman. Sources show he was born between 1861 and 1863 in the Russian Empire. Ralph Oxman (1993) thinks he may have been born in Kiev, Ukraine, not Kishine Bessarabia (now Moldavia). As was the pattern, Moishe was sent to America by his family about 1881 or 1882 and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota, near Canada and sources of fur, where he could make a living in his trade. Documents show that his brother, Car arrived at the Port of New York about July, 1883. Some called him "Fata Moishe."
