  Brett Gray Pearson and Sarah Ophelia Clayton were married in 1903 at Tulia, At the time of their marriage Brett was working the J.A. Ranch. For sometime he was the "chuck wagon" cook.
  In later years when he and Ophelia and the children moved to town, he helped work the streets with teams of horses. He also moved houses and stores. In the 1920's they moved to Amarillo, and from there he helped build the railroad from Borger to Amarillo. The work of building up the rail "beds" was done with teams of horses. When this was completed, they moved back to Tulia for awhile then on to Lovington, New Mexico where he farmed and ranched.
  In the early 1930's they moved to the Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico where they operated a dairy. When Brett became ill, they came back to Tulia where he died the same day they arrived.
  Brett was born in Quitman, Arkansas and came to Swisher County as a young man. ophelia was born in Springtown, Parker County, Texas and came to Swisher County in 1890. He met Ophelia when they both attended a dance on a neighboring ranch.
  Brett and Ophelia had six children. Mary Susie, Annie Mae, Minnie Pear, Madison Franklin, and Amma Lynn were all born in Tulia. Marion Clayton Pearson was born in San Diego. They also lived in Yuma, Arizona while in the employ of her brother Sherman. All of the children attended school in Tulia some time or the other.
  Mary Susie married Tom Sevier, and they had two sons: Brett Thomas and Edward Francis. Thomas (Tommy) married Opal and to this union was born one son, Jack. Tommy was killed in an oil field accident in 1958. He was born in Amarillo and died in Monahans, Texas. Edward was born in Milling Sand, New Mexico and still lives in Monahans. Tommy served with the Seabees (Navy) in Alaska in World War II and again in the Korean War. Edward served in the U.S. Air Force. Susie died in 1957 and Tom in 1965.
  Annie Mae married Roy Davis and had two sons; Melvin Eugene and Donald Gray. Both served in the navy in World War II. Melvin married Lou Teal, and they had one daughter, Nancy Carol. Nancy married Joe Mack Jarnigan, and they have two sons. Don married Ithama King Smoot, and they had three daughters; Michael Irene, Donna Ann, and Meddie Lynn. Michael married Philip Edwards, and they have two daughters. Donna married Mike Childers, and they had one son. She then married Bill Fullingim. Meddie Lynn is going to school in Norway where Don and Ithama live. he works for Mobil Oil and is stationed in Norway. Annie married N.S. Ballard in 1930. She died in an automobile accident in 1966, and N.S. was seriously injured. N.S. died in 1972.
  Minnie Pearl (Babe) married Bob (Robert) Ballard at Lovington, New Mexico. They had four children; Robert Ray, Minnie Louise, Thelma, and Gerald Nelson. Ray married Judy Peacock, and they had three children; Kenneth Ray, Monte Keith, and Karen Michele. Ray and Judy and family live in Irving. Minnie Louise married Presley York, and they have three children, too. Katherine Ann, Harley Bob, and Kelley Susan. Louise and Presley and family live near Wllman, Texas where the children attend school. Louise has been a telephone operator in Brownfield for 25 years. Thelma died the same day she was born. Gerald married Helen Sue Beall in Roswell, New Mexico where he worked for International harvester. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. At the present he lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bob died in 1974, and Babe still lives in Seagraves where she works.
  Madison Franklin died when he was two months old.
  Marion married Halle Mae Via, and they had three children: Amelia Jean, Betty Ilene and Damon Carl. Amelia Jean married "Chick" Holbert and they had two children: Rhonda Jean and Clayton Scott. "Chick" and Amelia live in Hereford. Betty Ilene married Marvin Kettle, and they had two children; Tonya Ann and Marvin Brent. Marvin and Betty live in Garden City, Texas. Damon Carl married Kathy Waltz. They have two sons; Monty and Glenn. Damon and Kathy live in Seminole, Texas. Marion was in the U.S. Army in World War II and now lives in Lovington, New Mexico, and Hallie Mae is an LVN.
  Amma Lynn married Leo Ehly of Nazareth, and they have one son, David. David married Yvonne Huseman, and they have two choldren; Brent Michael and Krist Lynn. David and Yvonne live in Amarillo. Leo and Lynn live on a farm north of Nazareth, and Lynn works for Star Grain.
  The parents of Brett were Benjamin Franklin Pearson and Rebecca Elizabeth Susan Thompson.
