The parents of James H. Pearson were Martha Ann Jackson and Ben Pearson who lived in Davis, Oklahoma.
Jim came to Swisher County in 1920 to work in the wheat harvest. He came to work with his cousins, Pat, Dan, and Omar Parker.
I was born in Tulia, in Swisher County in 1903. I attended Tulia schools and later married Jim Pearson in 1923. Our first home was on the edge of the canyons east of Tulia. Jim worked for Uncle Blaine Barnes. Our next home was north of Tulia where we worked for Mr. Frank Christian; we lived here several years before moving to the Sam Dinwiddie ranch west of Tulia, where we lived ten years. Our children attended McGuire and Lakeview school.
Later, we bought some land northeast of Tulia ad sold enough land for the spillway at the Tule Lake Dam.
We later moved to Tulia where our children attended school.
Jim started to work for the City and later worked for the R.E.A. until he retired.
James Henderson Pearson and Cora Ophelia Hancock were married December 6, 1923 in Tulia. To the union were born six children, as follows: LaVerne, Monte, Marie, Joyce, Lynn and Norman Dean who passed away at birth.
LaVerne married Willard Priest; he was killed on Saipan in World War II. She later married T.J. Birdsong and they live in California. Monte was married to Evelyn Van-hoozer and they live in Amarillo. Marie was married to Earl Ratliff; he was killed in a truck wreck. She is now married to Jim Allenbaugh and their home is in California. Joyce married Gerald Rousseau and lives near Dallas. Lynn married Bufford Johnston, they had two children. The mother passed away at the birth of the second child.
Jim passed away May 23, 1976. He was eight-eight years. old.
