a. Note:   grant in Plymouth Dec. 18, 1638; was partner with John Rogers at Duxbury in 1638-9. Was captain of a company for defense against the Indians Oct. 4, 1675.
  Genealogies of Mayflower Families, Vol. II, gives baptismal information. Says he died of fever at Swansea in the Plymouth Colony while serving as a captain in King Philip's War. He was buried at Swansea Feb. 5, 1675/76. More likely 1676 since the Great Swamp Fight (see below) was in December 1675.
  Nat'l Soc. of Daughters of Am. Colonists, Vols. 11 and 12, give death date as both 1675 (twice) and 1676 (once). He was a colonel in the Indian wars (Vol. 12) and captain of the Second Barnstable Co. in King Philip's War, participating in the Great Swamp Fight in 1675. He resided in Plymouth and Barnstable and was a landowner in Yarmouth. He was an early settler in Barnstable, a selectman, surveyor, landed proprietor, constable, member of Grand Inquest of the Colony. Vol. 11 cites place of death and marriage date.
  N.E. Marriages Prior to 1700 says he resided in Plymouth, Marshfield, Yarmouth and Barnstable.
  New England Families by Cutter says he was buried at Swansea Feb. 1675/76. Cites same baptismal info as above source.
