a. Continued:   William Nottingham by Stefan Bielinski
William Nottingham was an Englishman who is said to have come to America with the English invasion force in 1664. He was known as a lieutenant in the Duke of York's army. He settled in the Kingston area.
Perhaps he married Anne Tye in 1669. She was the widow of Daniel Brodhead - his commanding officer. They may have had two children who survived to maturity.
In October 1674, he acknowledged that he owed the estate of Thomas Willett 357 pounds. At that time, he owned a large house in Albany but lived in the small house he owned that was located nearby. In April 1679, he sold his "lot on the hill" in Albany to William Parker.
William Nottingham is said to have died in Marbletown, Ulster County in June 1680. His widow re-married and lived for more than two decades afterwards. His daughter, Elizabeth, married Albany resident Johannes Harmanse Visscher.
His family spread out from Ulster County a produced a William Nottingham in most succeeding generations!
