Notes
a. Note:   Came over in 1654 BARENT BALTUS Van der Lippstadt (from Lippstadt, Prussia - NOW North Rhine in Westphalia) was born about 1606 - 1610 at Lippstadt. He came to the Netherlands at an early age, as he was a good penman in the Dutch language. In Haarlem, North Holland, he was taxed in 1628. He was married 18 May 1631 in Haarlem to SARA PIETERS. Sara was baptized 18 March 1612 at Haarlem Reformed Church. She died 17 December 1634 just nine months after giving birth to her son Peter.
BARENT married 2nd: 29 January 1636 at Haarlem MAYKEN LAURENSE DE GUYTER. She was baptized 17 August 1611 at Haarlem (the daughter of Laurense De Guyter and Catalyntie Calawaert of Zurikee, Schonwen Is., Zeeland. After giving birth to seven children in ten years, Mayken died 20 October 1647.
BARENT married 3rd: 2 November 1647 to AECHTIE (Agatha) POWLESE. She was born in Amsterdam in 1609. In 1647 Barent was listed as a coopman or drayman.
BARENT, his wife and children and several of his sisters came to New Amsterdam by 1654, or perhaps earlier. It is not known what ship they came on - a possibility that it was his own ship. He owned a large house just south of the Dutch Reformed Church in Flatbush (now a part of Brooklyn). He died before November 1659 when his widow married 2nd to Isaac Classen. Barent is probably buried in the Churchyard of the Dutch Reformed Church.
In 1954 there were 4,500 descendants through his four daughters and one son (known), and even more descendants through his other daughter, Catalyntie BARENTS and her husband, POULOS VAN BENTHUYSEN. ..[see Van Benthuysen Gen.].
