Abraham du Bois was born 29 Dec. 1657 in Mannheim, die Pfalz, Germany, a son of Louis du Boise and Catarinen Blanchan. Abraham died Oct 7, 1731 in New Paltz, Ulster County, N.Y. He migrated to what became Ulster County, N.Y., with parents in 1661. At the time, the settlement of Wiltwyck (now Kingston) was part of the Dutch colony, New Netherlands. The growing number of Huguenot refugees led them to establish a a new village nearby, which became Hurley. Abraham, his mother and two siblings were among 45 women and children captured by Indians in 1663. After three months, they were rescued by his father and New Amsterdam soldiers. In 1664, the British took over from the Dutch. In 1677, Abraham, his father, his brother Isaac and nine other heads of Huguenot families requested a land patent from the British governor for land purchased from the Indians on May 26. The grant for more than 39,000 acres was signed on Sept. 29. The large tract of land became the town of New Paltz, a town that was run by the "Duzine" (the 12 heads of the families) for more than a century, although it evolved into an elective, representative position. Served in Second Canadian Expedition during the Colonial Wars in Col. Thomas Farm'ers Regt., 6th Co., George Van Est Captain. Abraham married Margaret Deyo 6 March 1681 in First Dutch Church, Kingston, N.Y.
