Note: Sarah Jane first married William Rose, who died in the Army in l862. In 1883, she married John Clifford of near Lewis town. She spent most of the last ten years of her life (after Mr. Clifford's death) at Canton, dying in 1922, at the home of her step-daughter, Mrs. Effie Ford at the Clifford farm two miles north of Lewistown, where she was visit ing. The date of her marriage to William Rose was 25 Dec 1861. Marr by W.S.Peterson, M.G. Sarah Jane was buried with her 2nd husband, J. Langdon, Clifford, and her son, William Elmer Rose, who was born 11 Nov 1862 and died 6 Dec 1892. She is listed as living with her parents, Samuel and Susan Wise, in the 1870 Census: Sarah, age 28, and William, age 7. Her obituary in the Canton Daily Register of 12 May 1922: Aged Resident of Lewistown Township died last Evening. Mrs. Sarah Jane Clifford, an aged resident, died quite suddenly at 6:10 last night, at the home of her step-daughter Mrs. Frank Ford, three and one half miles north of this city. She suffered an attack of paralysis yesterday morning. She was born in New Jersey in 1842 and was married twice, both husbands being dead. There are three step-children, J. A. Clifford, Cuba; J. L. Clifford, in North Dakota, and Mrs. Ford. Mrs. J. P. Wolf, Canton; and Euphemia Ellis, Seattle Wash, are sisters.
