a. Note:   Captured in the Indian raid, she was baptized in the Roman Catholic mission on 15 June 1704 as Mary Elizabeth, and raised as a Roman Catholic by the Indians, She married another captive. When her brother John came to redeem her, she was told that she would inherit quite a bit. She said that she would rather be a poor captive among Catholics than to become the rich heiress of a Protestant family.
