Note: He was the fifth child of Edward and Diannah Hickey. Heenlisted in the War of 1812 at the age of 17 years under CaptainDavid Vanmeter and Colonel Henry E. Coleman and served about 3months; was discharged December 1814. He returned home toVirginia and remained until August 1815, when he made a trip toOhio with his knapsack on his back, landing in Zanesville. Fromthere he went on to Coshocton County, where he married SarahHambaugh. AFter his marriage they mvoed to Madison Twp. wherehe worked out by the day, farming. In two and a half years heleased a farm in Mary Ann twp. for 12 years. The conditions ofthe lease requred him to clear forty acres of the land and setout fifty apple trees. This was about 1821. After a few yearshe purchased three hundred and three acres of land. At the timeof the writing of this history, he was the owner of eighthunderd and seventy-nine acres of land, besides having given tohis children three hundred and eighty-three acres. In 1848 hiswife, Sarah, died and he remarried Harriet Moore in 1853. Hewas a justice of the peace three terms. He and his wife,Harriet, were members of the Disciple Church of Rocky Fork.
