a. Note:   e of Normandy, France, Charles and Jean Hamel, settled in Quebec City, Canada. They came from the parish of Avremesnil, department of Seine-inferieur, near the city of Dieppe. Their father was Francois Hamel. They had another brother and sister, Francois and Anne. Francois was a farmer. Anne married Jacques Jullien, a bourdeois of Dieppe. The father, Francois and Anne remained in France. Charles maried Judith Auvray. They had a son in 1652, Jean. Judith prematurely passed away and Charles remarried Catherine LeMaitre a short time before leaving for Canada with his young son, Jean, and his brother Jean and wife, Marie Auvray. To better establish the geographic location of Charles' family in France, we must mention his second marriage was at Dieppe (city). Also his confirmation records of the Notre-Dame church in Quebec indicate that he was born in the Archdiocese of Rouen, (city) France.
Note:   In the middle of the 17th century (autumn of 1656 to be exact), two Hamels from the Provinc
