Born "Minnie Lou" - Didn't like her name - changed it.
A lonely widow with none of her family nearby, she married Mr. Sweet a few scant weeks before her death. Her new husband drank and drove, resulting in the loss of both their lives on a holiday weekend.
She had been widowed by the death of Forest Leroy Whitfield just two years before her own death. The family decided to bury her with her beloved Leroy.

Funeral services for Mary Jo Sweet, 44, of McNeill, were held Monday at the Sones Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Blackwell officiating.
Mrs. Sweet died Thanksgiving Day as a result of an automobile accident in Gulfport.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Edward Phares, Pasadena, Texas and James Wesley Phares, U.S. Army; two daughters, Catherine Christine Curtis and Debra Ann Sechrengost both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Judy Archer, Brentwood, Texas [actually Brentwood, California] and Mrs. Wanese Schenkle [Should read Onita Juanice Schinkle], Hot Springs, Arkansas and one brother, Thurmond [Thurman] Tedder, Houston, Texas and eight grandchildren.
Burial took place in the Gipson Cemetery with McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
