Greetings Bonnie, Found your information for Peter McLeod on Ancestry.com and decided to make contact since Peter, son of Jonathon MacLeod and Catherine MacCrimmon, is up my family tree also. He has proven a very elusive family member to track down in the records. Peter's father was born 24 Feb 1815 and christened the 26 Feb 1815 (Glenelg Old Parish Register) in Kirktown, Glenelg, Inverness, Scotland. His father is Malcolm MacLeod and his mother is Ann Campbell. The family, Malcolm, Ann with their three oldest children John (5), Mary(3), and Jonathon (6 mos) arrived in Canada in the fall of 1815 on the Baltic Merchant. The family settled in West Hawkesbury. Jonathon's younger sister, Catherine, who was born in Canada, is my paternal great grandmother. Jonathon's wife, Catherine MacCrimmon, is the daughter of Farqhuar MacCrimmon and Rachel MacRae. Catherine was born on 24 January 1815 and christened 25 Jan 1815 (Glenelg OPR), Glenelg, Inverness, Scotland. Both families came out as part of the same emigation scheme from Scotland. Jonathon and Catherine were married of the 21 December 184 in Lochiel, Glengarry, Ontario. I have birth dates for four of the couple's children from the Presbyterian records for Lochiel: Mary (20 August 1842), Donald (15 Mar 1844), Malcolm (22 Jul 1849), and Mary Ann (24 Sep 1852). I do not have full birth dates, only calculated years for Peter (1846), Ann (1850), Rachel (1856), John (1859), or Margaret (1963) based on census ages. How can we help each other to fill in the gaps for Peter and his siblings? Look forward to hearing from you about the records you have been able to locate.
