From an extract of entries in the Old parochial Registers of Births Deaths and Marriages in the parish of Crossmichael, in the County of Kirkcudbright Scotland, we find that James McGuffog was baptised on the 5th June 1803, lawful son of Jas McGuffog and Margt Riddick in Dunjarg In the 1841 Census we find that James aged 35 a farmer is living at Nethertown, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland with his wife Ann aged 30, Alexander McGuffog aged 5 years, Margaret aged 3 years and Ann aged 1 year, along with three servants Robert Rae, Jean McKinnel, Margaret Clune, and Ann Beattie.
