Knight, of Clapton, in Cordano, Com. Somers. --- Presumably the Richard Arthur mentioned below was a son or grandson of Agnes's father: Alice, dau of James, Lord Berkeley, and Isabel Mowbray (married 1424) was said by Smyth to have married "Richard Arthur, of Clapton, near Portbury, co. Somerset." Richard Arthur must've died before 1485, for there are IPMs in 17 and 18 Henry VII [1492&3] for a John Arthur regarding the manors of Clopton, Asshecombe, Weston and Wyke in Somerset, and scattered lands in Gloucester. The Gloucester IPM states John Arthur died on 16 Jan. 16 Henry VII, while the Somerset one says he died on 13 January 16 Henry VII . Both agree that his heir was his son, John Arthur, aged 18 and more. According to an Arthur pedigree provided by Smyth, Alice Berkeley and Richard Arthur did have a son John Arthur (presumably the subject of the above IPM), married to "Margaret, daughter of Joseph Butler, of Badminton", but the son and heir of John and Margaret was not named John, but Thomas.
