Notes
a. Note:   egend of the Williamson family history that was handed down. That the early American Williamson's were beset with Indians out of desperation and tragedies to the time they fled from Virginia and almost a running flight during the French and Indian uprising. They were warned by an old Indian squaw that the Indians were on the warpath. William Jonathan Williamson and his family packed everything they had including their chickens and pigs in a one horse covered wagon then fled with the wagon train and those that came with them were the Garner-Maness-Shield and the William Families. They took the Tuscarora Trail going toward the sea. When they were ten miles below the trail they had scouts brushing out their trail and they stopped to see that their homes were in flames. They then pressed onward towards the sea. They arrived in Moore County on Grassy Creek where they spent their first night. For some odd reason they stayed and started the first Williamson burial ground which is still there today. William Jonathan Williamson took up large tracts of land buying the land around him for $.10 an acre. These are the people that are responsible for the Williamson's in upper Moore County. William Jonathan Williamson was born in 1689 and died 1-28-1791 at the age of 102. He was buried in the old Williamson Family Cemetery on Grassy Creek. He married Jemima Reid a Virginia girl and she is also is buried there on Grassy Creek having died 2-14-1792. According to the Will of William Jonathan Williamson in the Moore County Court House William Jonathan had been blind for about three years-had palsy and was unable to write his will so he dictated it to his great grandson Joseph Care and in this will he names his children William Williamson III born 1744-John Williamson-Nancy Williamson who married Daniel Maness-Elizabeth Williamson and Sarah Williamson.
