a. Note:   is first wife might have been slaves of John Richardson Ritter est. 1793-1863 and wife Mary Kennedy est. 1802-1863. John Richardson Ritter was the son of John Ritter 1760-1828 and Elizabeth H. Richardson 1760-1842. Elizabeth H. Richardson was the daughter of Druary Richardson. The land which Samuel Ritter eventually acquired was surrounded on three sides by the lands of John Richardson Ritter. In October of 1891 Elizabeth Walden Ritter deeded two tracts of land to her son William Alexander "Sandy" Ritter. Those two tracts one containing 71 acres and the other 87 acres lie at the end of present day Letlough Road in Upper Moore County near the Old Ritter Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Brower Sawyer says her Mother Hassie Ritter Brower said that she grew-up on the Old Richardson Plantation which would have been John Richardson Ritter's Mother's home place off present day Borden Road. Elizabeth Walden was the daughter of Anderson Walden Sr. and Julia Ritter. About 1860 at the age of 18 Elizabeth married Samuel Ritter Sr. 1816-1892 whose first wife had recently died. Children by Samuel Ritter's first wife-name unknown include the following: 1. Samuel 'Sam' Ritter Jr. born about 1847. 2. Jerry Ritter born 1849. 3. Daniel 'Dan' Ritter born 1853. Samuel Ritter Sr. and Elizabeth Walden had eleven Children together. William Alexander 'Sandy' Ritter born about 1860. Benjamin Ritter born 1862. Hasseltine 'Hassie' Ritter born 1864 died 1947 married George Henry Brower 1859-1934. Ella Ritter born 1866 married Wyatt Brower. Noah Richardson Ritter born 1868 married Armenta Brower. Assia Elizabeth Ritter born 1871 married Sidney Gaston Maness. Mattie Ritter born 1873 married Emanuel Person. Lemuel Ritter born 1876 married Rosa Ann Caviness daughter of General Harrison Caviness buried in the Smyrna Church Cemetery. Harrison Caviness was the son of Winsey A. Caviness and grandson of Mariah Caviness born about 1803. Rosa Ann Caviness' second husband was General Branson Walden son of Anderson Walden Sr. and Julia Ritter. Julia Margaret Ritter born 1877 married Brantley Saunders. General Mitchell Ritter 1880-1981 married Mary Jane Caviness and Dora Person 1880-1976. Narcissus Ritter born 1883 married Henry Clay Garner son of Noah Garner and Martha Caviness.
