Notes
a. Note:   t British Museum London carries Deaton-Dygton year 1130-was the name most of them took. William Deaton came to Virginia in 1645. He was a descendent of Sir Henry Dygton who fought in the Crusades. Sir Henry was born in 1350. Nothing after 1645 until the Revolution in 1776. There is a Deatonville in Amelie County Virginia. They fell out in the Civil War some went with the Union and others joined the Confederacy. They broke up and scattered. There is nothing much left of Deatonville. Captain William Deaton drifted from Amelie County and settled in Chatham County North Carolina. After 1776 William joined an outlaw Tory-Colonel Fanning. They made him a Captain and the S.O.B. fought against his neighbors and against George Washington. They captured Governor Burke of North Carolina and sent him to prison in Wilmington NC. The next day William was killed near Cain Creek in Chatham County NC on 9-13-1781. Captain William Deaton had eight sons. When the war was over the neighbors made it so bad for them they had to leave the county. Three of them came to Big Oak Church-Bill settled in Montgomery County and Burrell settled on Cabin Creek near the Montgomery Moore line. Burrell's land was wet and swampy on Cabin Creek. He hewed himself a home out of timber. He dug ditches to drain the bottom. It was a wonderful farm and made good crops. it is not known where the rest of the boys went. Most every family had a son named William.
Note:   Dighton was the name in England-changed to Deaton. Copy page in book a
