a. Note:   n his Father's footsteps by operating a grist mill. Patrons came from miles around to have their corn ground with water power. Luke sold freshly ground corn meal to local grocery stores including Capel's Grocery-Crouch Grocery in Rockingham-Allen Baxley's at Roberdel-Bruce Dawkins' Grocery-Sullivan's Grocery and "The Company Store" for Ledbetter Manufacturing Company. Luck was treasurer of the church for decades and served in many capacities and was mainstay for whatever needed to be done. He also served as treasurer of the Hoffman School PTA. Luke a man of convictions and integrith for years gave tender and loviing care to a son with muscular dystrophy. His word was his bond. Honesty was important to him and he had an aversion to debr. So far as is known he never paid any interest to anyone and he was known for fairness in business.
