Note: g of 1846. He settled adjacent to Rocky Fork Creek in Richmond County North Carolina in the late 1700's. He made an entry for land on 10-14-1794 and received land grant # 939 by State of NC 6-30-1797. "The stipulated price of the land was 30 shillings for every hundred acres". John was a Presbyterian and served as an elder under the Rev. Colin Lindsay also a native of Scotland. Rev. Lindsay served several churches in Richmond and nearby Counties. The first log meeting house of Harmony Presbyterian Church-today's Ellerbe Presbyterian Church was built on John D. McLean's land in the year 1800. Oral History has John married twice and he had 10 children by each wife. Each wife had a son named John but no documentary evidence to confirm this has been found.
