a. Note:   an for the Railroad. He later transferred to the Railroad Shops in Spencer NC but returned to the Norfolk and Southern Shop in Biscoe to be with his family. He walked to the gold mine near Candor when work was available to supplement his income. When the shop moved he worked as loom fixer at Ailee Mill-now Springs but retired early due to ill health. He was a quiet man-a democrat-devoted to his family and spent much time with his five sons teaching them to enjoy gardening-politics-hunting and fishing as he did. Death came suddenly 11-26-1957 at age 63 while he was deer hunting by the Pee Dee River where he had fished many times.
Note:   William and Arie set up housekeeping in Biscoe NC where he was a Firem
