Note:   ZEBEDEE PICKLE was born sometime between 1872 and 1875. Vicki Griffith has his birth as 1875. Roger Mertes has two possible date of birth. His first is August 20, 1872 and the other is August 24, 1874. A possibly reliable source has the date as July 11, 1873. Finally, his date of birth has been calculated as 1875 from information in the 1910 Monroe County Census. The 1875 year of birth is in line with the calculated year of birth from the 1880 Lamar County Census. Zebedee married Nora Irvin, daughter of Jack Irvin and Sarah Ray. Roger Mertes states that Nora?s full name was Alice LeNora Irvin. He knows that her father was a Marion Irvin, but does not know anything about her mother. Taking the information given by Dollie Pickens and Roger Mertes it seems safe to say that Nora was the daughter of Francis Marion Irvin and Sarah Ray. This has recently been confirmed by Galeen Chain. It should be noted that Francis Marion Irvin?s brother Joseph Irvin also had a daughter named Alice Lenora. This Alice was born in 1864 in the house of Joseph Irvin and Susan Ray Irvin. She married J. Bradford Pickle. Children of Zebedee Pickle and LaNora Irivn: The first child was apparently Mary O. "Zena" Pickle In this record she is recorded as daughter Mary O., age 11. In the 1900 Census she is Zena, born October 1899 Zena was born October 7, 1898 and died July 22, 1995. She married Daniel Webster Tate. Dan was born December 9, 1897 and died February 3, 1978 and he is buried in Bobby Pickle Cemetery with Zena. The second child in the 1910 Census is Joel Clavis ("Dixie" and "Dick") Pickle. Dick was born September 17, 1900. He married Lula Camp, a daughter of Charlie Benton Camp and Nancy Della Atkins. The third child in the census is Icy. P. Pickle. Susan Williams has this child as Ivy Pickle. She is recorded as three year old daughter in the 1910 Census. This would make her date of birth 1907. I am assuming that this is Dollie Perline Pickle. According the Mertes, Dollie was born July 10, 1903. Dollie married Wheeler F. Pickens. He was born in 6/6/1916 and died 12/27/1967 and was buried in the Ray-Pickle Cemetery. Dollie died last year and I assume she was buried in the Ray-Pickle Cemetery. 1850 United States Federal Census 1850 United States Federal Census Name: Francis Ervin Age: 22 Estimated birth year: abt 1828 Birth Place: South Carolina Gender: Male Home in 1850 (City,County,State): Eastern Division, Monroe, Mississippi Family Number: 536 Household Members: Name Age Rigdon Ervin 70 Anna Ervin 58 Robt Ervin 27 Anthony Ervin 25 Francis Ervin 22 Tighlman Ervin 20 Martha Ervin 17 Joseph Ervin 15 Source Citation: Year: 1850; Census Place: Eastern Division, Monroe, Mississippi; Roll M432_378; Page: 39A; Image: 82.
