Possible rib and wrist fractures, a bruised knee, a fractured upper jaw and facial lacerations, including a severe cut on the upper lip, are her injuries. The accident occurred at 6:50 p.m. at West Broadway and South Baker Street and involved automobiles driven by Robert C. Westphal, West End Modern Cabins, and Mr. Gerson. Westphal, 22, was treated at the hospital for a cut right wrist. Mr. Gerson, who told police that he had not stopped for the stop sign, was not injured. Westphal had been driving west on Broadway and Gerson north on South Baker Street. Westphal, who were married at Baaboo, Wis., Saturday, are visiting the latter's mother, Mrs. Vinson Rice, 253 Olmsted Street. Mrs. Westphal was formerly Miss Martha Drugan. Mr. Westphal is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Westphal, Baraboo. The couple will leave Monday for Long Beach, Calif., where they will make their home. The bride was graduated from the Winona Senior High School in 1941 and attended the Winona Business College. She was formerly employed by the Office of Price Administration at Baraboo. Robert Westphal, 1603 W. 5th St., told police that he had stopped for a light on Broadway at 10 p.m. Thursday when a car driven by Joan Schneider, 812 W. Broadway, ran into the rear of his car. Miss Margaret Lightfoot, 1603 W. 5th St., a passenger in the Westphal car, complained of a back injury as a result of the mishap. Westphal estimated damage to his car at $150. No: 397-12-9368 O B I T U A R Y ROBERT CARL WESTPHAL July 18, 1925 to March 5, 2009 Robert Carl "Bob" Westphal, Sr., beloved busband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Modesto, CA at age 83. Bob was born in Riverside, IL to parents Emil and Anna Westphal, and spent his childhood years in Chicago and Baraboo, WI. He was married September 18, 1943 to Martha Drugan, who preceded him in death May 28, 2008. He is survived by his two sons, Robert Jr. (Donna) Westphal and Daniel (Kim) Westphal both of Modesto. During WWII, Bob served in the US Navy Amphibious Forces and was a member of the UDT (Underwater Demolition Teams). He was in combat at Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. He and his family were long-time residents of Pleasanton, CA prior to moving to Modesto in 1977. Bob spent 40 years in the glass business until retiring in 1990. Bob dedicated his life to his family, and cherished family gatherings and holidays. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was warm and generous, and always maintained an unparalleled positive attitude. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In his younger years, he was an accomplished boxer. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening and rock-hounding. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Anna (Frickenhaus) Westphal; siblings Dorothy (Jerry) Chaplin; Roy (Ethel) Westphal; Walter (Shirley) Westphal; Frank (Josephine) Westphal and Edward (Bonnie) Westphal. He is survived by two brothers, John (Noreen) Westphal, Clear Lake, CA, and George (Joyce) Westphal, Bellingham, WA; Granddaughter Kellie (Chris) Tindle and great-grandchildren Amaya and Joshua, Modesto, CA; grandson Adam Westphal, USCG currently deployed in the Middle East; Over 50 nieces and nephews, along with many cousins in both the USA and Germany. The family would like to thank the caregivers, Dana and Apryl, who have tirelessly and lovingly cared for dad over the past ten months. They have truly been his guardian angels. Special thanks to Theresa and Dr. Paula at Hospice who were a God-send in every manner. Private funeral services will be held Friday, 3-13-09, 10:00 a.m. at the Eaton Family Funeral Home, Modesto, CA.
