There is quite a discrepancy on who his wife is. Two different marriage licenses were issued for Jonathan Hopper and Sarah Vaughn. GenForum posted by Debra Tumlin states that Sarah Vaughn was Sarah Mattews who married Perkins Vaughn and then Jonathan Hopper. Based on dates of birth father should be Samuel. Jonathan was arrested for tippling on the Sabbath and charged with selling spirits on the Sabbath two different times in 1860. Each time he pleaded guilty and paid a fine of $50.00 plus court cost of $7.50. Then he was arrested for not having a license and again paid a $50.00 fine. Deputy Sheriff John P. Tiller was the arresting officer each time. (Can't even trust a cousin). She married William Henry Paul, December 21, 1837, in Oglethorpe Co. GA. They lived in the Sandy Cross community. Their son, Benjamin Franklin Paul married Martha Terrel Hopper. I don't know who her parents are, but I'm wondering if she is Jonathan's daughter (which would make her B. F. Paul's first cousin). Jonathan had a daughter named Darthula, and Martha and B. F. Paul named one of their daughters Darthula... Jonathan Hopper 1st listed in the Oglethorpe County Tax Digest in 1827 but with no tax. Others were listed the same way.
