  1. William TRENCHARD: Birth: BEF 1100. Death: in Hordle Hants

a. Note:   Peganus (Or Paganus) Trencherd is the first recorded holder of the name. He was granted the rights to manors in the Isle of Wight from Baldwin de Ripariis(Redvers) 1st Earl of Devon between 1141 and 1145 . The deed was witnessed by his three grandsons so he must have been quite old at that time. These manors certainly included Shalfleet and Chessell, and also may have included Hordle on the mainland, although this manor may have been a later acquisition of the Trenchard family. Hordle remained the seat of the Trenchards for many generations. is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program.
