The 1861 Census for Middleton Township, Norfolk County, shows Benjamin (46), Elizabeth (27), Robert (3) and James P. (2) at home. By the 1871 Census (for Middleton Township, Norfolk County), Benjamin and Elizabeth have four children at home (Robert who is 13; James P. who is 11; Benjamin Narsis who is 9; and Walter S. who is 4. An article from the Tillsonburg News, "Middleton Church History Recalls Early Settlement Days" describes the founding of the Bethel United Church along Talbot Street. Four stewards were nominated to handle the business - Wilson Clark, David Moyer, William McKoy and Hezekiah Crandall. In 1872, these men, with George Simmons and William White, built the church as it now stands. Others who helped to build it were the Nunns, Willitses, McGuires, Ryans, Robinses, Shavers, Weavers and Wileys. See Talbot District Marriage Register, 1837-57 in Nunn History Binder.
