Note: h 1 child (Mallissa aged 1, born in AL) living near Oxford. In the 1880 census of Theophilus' family, Emiline Holyfield was listed as a white female, 21 or 27, stepdaughter. John died while in service with the Confederacy during the Civil War (30 June 1862) and Cassie married Theopilus, John's younger brother. 14 February 1863, Maj. Handley gave this report: John Holifield from Randolph Co AL., joined Confederate Army on 10 April 1862, private, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., blue eyes, light hair, fair complection, occupation - farmer. Died from disease near Oakalona, Miss. on 30 June 1862. 11 Oct. 1862, Cassey Holderfield was given a statement by Randolph County Justice of the Peace certifying that she was the widowed wife of John Holderfield with two (2) orphaned children and eligible to receive whatever pay he was due.
