a. Note:   Of the many families emigrating from Pennsylvania to Canada during the beginning of the present century, we find the name Gehman. The progenitor of the Gehmans of this county was Solomon. A native of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was born October 2nd, 1800. In 1826 he, in company with Henry Moyer and family, Jacob and Abram Clemens with their families, John and George Shoemaker, Jacob Kolb and family, Schiedel, Clemmer, Mohr, and others, moved to Canada and settled in Waterloo County, Ontario. Mr Gehman settled in North Dumfries Township, two miles east of Roseville, on the farm now possessed by his son, Rev. Solomon. The old progenitor was married to Catharine, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Gabel) Bechtel. She was born December 21st, 1810, and died June 21st, 1845. After her decease Mr Gehman was married to Magdalena, daughter of John and Magdalena (Baumann) Good. She was born January 24th, 1813. Mr Gehman died August 14th, 1872.
