a. Note:   Clifford: Pioneer Laid to Rest. Mrs. Christinna McBain Elmslie Funeral was held for one of the oldest pioneers in Clifford area, Mrs. Elmslie took place from the home of her son in law, George Hay of Howick Interment Clifford Cemetery. Mrs. Elmslie was 96 years old was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex McBain. She came to Canada with her parents in 1854 and settled in Elora, where in 1858 she married William Elmslie, who predeceased her in 1915. They settled in Clifford, being the third family there. Mr. Elmslie was the first village schoolmaster. Later they took up a farm of dense forest near Clifford and remained there until his death. Mrs. Elmslie was the only living charter member of Knox Church. She is survived by two daughters, two sons and one brother. Three daughters and sons predeceased her. [Date: July 1930]
