Note: RIORDAN, Joseph (Joe) - Passed away, peacefully, at St. Mary's General Hospital, on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003.Born on February 7, 1905, Joe was a son of the late Jeremiah and Gertrude (McDonald) Riordan. He is also predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Gerry Riordan and two sisters, Gertrude (Logel) and Rita (Stevenson) and a niece, Sister Mary Evelyn, CSJ. Survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Pauline (nee Blumen). Dear brother of Mary Atherton of Kitchener and Wynn Simmons of Sarasota, Fla. Dear uncle of Jack Riordan and his wife Joan of Beaconsfield, Quebec, Dick Riordan and his wife Adelaide of Baden, Joan (Riordan) Masters and her husband Fred of Kitchener, Terri (Riordan) Knott of Toronto, Barbara (Riordan) Massiah and her husband Bert of Vancouver, B.C., Jude (Atherton) Kroetsch of New Hamburg and Jim Logel and Marilyn of Waterloo. Special godfather and uncle to Mary Margaret Riordan of Beaconsfield, Quebec. Also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews. Joe was sole founder and original owner of Riordan Sporting Goods in Kitchener. He was an honourary member of the K-W Business and Professional Men's Association, an honourary member of the Kitchener Knights of Columbus, as well as a recipient of the 25 year service pin with the Canadian Red Cross. Joe was a dedicated parishioner of St. Francis Church in Kitchener since its inception. A special thank you is extended to the Community Care Access Centre for their compassionate care, especially Barbara and Vera. Also, a heartfelt thank you is extended to Father Paul Voisin CR for his constant support.Relatives and friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, 745-9495, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where parish prayers will be recited at 8:45 p.m. Morning prayers will be offered from the funeral home on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at 10:20 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis RC Church, 49 Blueridge Ave., Kitchener with Father Paul Voisin CR officiating. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. Reception will follow in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre.As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home or through 1057@@alderwoods.com.
