Note: Jacob Schieck was a poor man. He served as a soldier in Germany for 7 years as a substitute for a wealthy man's son and was paid $500.00 for doing this. This money he used to bring his family to Canada in 1841. They settled in Berlin, Ont., now Kitchener. He was a Lutheren and a liberal. Of all his children George was the only one to settle in Wellington County. Jacob, in Canada, was now a retired soldier and spent his time fidling for dances and riding about on horseback, As a result the children in the family had to early turn their hands to gainfull employment.
