Note: Anna Hett was born in Bernsberg, County of Alsfeldt, Germany. Her Mother had formerly been married to a Mr. Killer and they had one son, Nick. Mr. & Mrs. Hett had two sons, John and Henry, and four daughters. In 1842, Nick Killer and John Hett (half brothers) came to New York and then to Berlin, Ontario. Nick became a prosperous hardware merchant, married, and his daughter, Kitty Killer, who became Mrs. Gerhart Heintzman, the piano manufacturer. John Hett became a contractor in Berlin and built the first high school there. The remainder of the Hett family soon came to Berlin. Mr. Hett Sr. was a tinker, travelling with a team of horses and a democrat through much of Waterloo and Wellington Counties. He bartered tinware and other articles in exchange for money or farm produce and horses. He also served as a lay preacher at the Lutheran church at Mosboro. Except for Anna and one other sister, the families lived in Berlin. Henry was a poultry man with a farm inside the town limits. Anna came to Canada with her parents in 1850.
