Note: apprenticeship indenture. It reads, "She shall not wast nor lend fornication, she shall not comitt matrimony." She was indentured to Hugh Windsor to learn housewifery. Apprentices were kept to the terms of their indenture until the age of 21, and there were strict penalties for leaving early. What usually happened was that the girl would become betrothed and marry just after she became 21. Joan Lucas was married June, 1715, and was baptised February, 1694. The gap in time is 21 years and three months.
