a. Note:   N15504 !Margaret Tudor (1489-1541), queen of Scotland, and daughter of King Henry VII of England. She married King James IV of Scotland in 1503. In 1514, a year after the king's death, she married Archibald Douglas, 6th Earlof Angus. Her great grandson, King James VI of Scotland, ascended to the English throne as King James I in 1603. HENRY STEWART, 2nd son of Andrew, LORD AVONDALE [SCT], by Margaret, daughter of John, 2nd LORD KENNEDY, was born circa 1495-1500. P.C. [SCT], attending. 28 and 30 June 1545 the meetings of that body at Stirling. An extraordinary Lord of Session, 1546. He is said to have married 1stly, "the Lady Leslie," who must have died or been divorced before March 1527/8, in which month he married Margaret, Queen Dowager, and sometime Queen Regent of Scotland, the divorced wife of Archibald (DOUGLAS), EARL OF ANGUS [SCT], formerly Lady Margaret TUDOR, 1st daughter of HENRY VII, by Elizabeth ("of York"), his Queen. By her, who was born 28, and baptized 30 November 1489, at Westminster Abbey, he had previously, in 1524, been appointed Treasurer and Lord Chancellor [SCT], and with her he acquired the lands of Methven and Balquhidder, co. Perth, being created (by her son, the young James V [SCT]), 17 July 1528, LORD METHVEN [SCT]. She, by whom he had no child that survived infancy, died intestate, of palsy, at Methven, 18 October 1541, in her 52nd year, and was buried in state at the Carthusian Monastery of St. John, in Perth. He married, 3rdly, before 4 November 1544, Janet, widow, or divorced wife, of Sir Hugh KENNEDY, of Girvanmains, and before that, in 1529, of Alexander GORDON, MASTER OF SUTHERLAND, and 1st da. of John (STEWART), 2nd EARL OF ATHOLL [SCT], by Janet, daughter of Archibald (CAMPBELL), 2nd EARL OF ARGYLL [SCT]. He was living 10 October 1551, but died soon afterwards. His widow married (as her 4th husband, contract 9 April 1557) Patrick (RUTHVEN), 3rd LORD RUTHVEN [SCT], who died 13 June 1566, aged about 46. She married, 5thly, James GRAY, son of Gilbert GRAY, of Foulis. Complete Peerage, 8:682-4. !28 Nov 1489: iv. kl.
