Miller was born at Randolph Co., Missouri, January 7, 1855 and was educated in the public schools and at Fayette College in Fayette, Missouri. He followed the profession of a druggist until he came to Elko County in 1877. He then followed the livestock industry on his ranch in Pleasant Valley. Later he held a number of county offices with one of them being County Recorder. His wife's maiden name was Henley and her family, the S. M.
