Minne Kate registered the birth. 1891census RG 12/2497 folio 34 page 4: living in Main Street,Countesthorpe,with parents and sister Augusta, aged 5, scholar. 1901 census RG 13/2956 folio 60: aged 13, Knitting Machinist, living with parents in Main Street Countesthorpe, next door to Roebuck Inn. At time of marriage living on Main Street Countesthorpe, aged 21, occupation Hosiery Machinist. 1911 census Class: RG14; Piece: 18975: Living on Church Lane Countesthorpe with wife Isabel and daughter Kathleen. Aged 23, hosiery Hand. Son Edward is with John's parents. Accounts of William Lowe who died 21st October 1941 states that John Cawrey Soars was the only child with issue of Minnie Kate Soars. His unmarried sister, Augusta, looked after his children Edward, Kathleen and Harold (John) when he died in Germany in 1918 whilst a prisoner of war, as their mother couldn't cope. Family lore had it that he died in the Flu epidemic, but the release of service records in 2009 showed that he died of amputation of the thigh and cardiac failure. Buried in Cologne, Germany. Grave visited by Edward, son, and twin grandchildren Judith Mary and John Cawrey in 1965, and by granddaughter Janet in 2013. Commonwealth Graves Commission entry states: Debt of Honour Register In Memory of JOHN CAWREY SOARS Private 23147 8th Bn., Leicestershire Regiment who died on Wednesday 12 June 1918 . British Legion and MoD Roll of Honour states: Private, 8th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment (23147). Died 12th June, 1918. Born and resident Countesthorpe, enlisted Leicester. Buried Cologne Cemetery. Son of Edward and Minnie Soars, Husband of Mary Isabel Soars, Station Road, Countesthorpe.
