Lane, 75, an accountant with the Washington accounting firm of Robert Philipson & Co. for 41 years before retiring as a partner in March, died Aug. 28 of cancer at a hospital in Lewes, Del. Mr. Lane, who had lived in Rehoboth Beach, Del., since retiring, was a native of Syracuse, N.Y., and a graduate of Syracuse University. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marine. He came to the Washington area in 1946 as an auditor with the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and joined Robert Philipson in 1948. His marriage to Berniece Lane ended in divorce. Survivors include his wife, Joan F. Lane of Rehoboth Beach; a child by his first marriage, David H. Lane of Baltimore; three children by his second marriage, Patrick H. Lane, Philip H. Lane and Johanna M. Lane, all of Laurel; and a sister, Ada Rothschild of Syracuse. Mr. Lane was born in Syracuse and attended Syracuse University. He lived in Silver Spring, Md. for 35 years before moving to Delaware. Mr. Lane served with the Merchant Marines in World War II. Surviving are his wife, Joan; two sons, David and Phillip Lane, both of Silver Spring; a daughter, Johanna Lane of Silver Spring; a sister, Ada Rothschild of Liverpool; and several nieces and nephews.
