Note: George Schimmel, a resident of this county since boyhood, died last Saturday in St. Joseph�s hospital at Mitchell, SD where he had been a patient for five weeks and had submitted to surgery three weeks earlier. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the Floyd Schimmel home and in the Christ Lutheran church in this city, with Rev. P. G. Westby officiating. Burial was made in the Spencer, SD cemetery. Pall bearers were Jack Hunt, Vere Burnham, Carlos Laughlin and John Purschke of Spencer, SD; Chris Forster and A.H. Forster of Salem, SD. George Schimmel, son of Valentine and Dora Schimmel, was born at Richfield, Wisconsin, on March 16, 1875. In 1882 he was brought to Dakota Territory by his parents, who located in this county, where he was to live the rest of his life. He engaged in farming after growing to manhood and lived for many years on a farm southwest of Salem, SD. On June 14, 1905 he was married at Spencer, SD to Blanche Edith Muckler. Two sons were born to them, one of whom, Dwight, died in infancy. In recent years he had made home with his son, Floyd. On February 4, 1950 he suffered a paralytic stroke and was an invalid for the rest of his life. He died on April 28, 1951 at the age of 76 years, one month and 12 days. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran church in Salem, SD. Survivors include his son, Floyd, of Spencer, SD; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Frick, and a brother Peter, both of Bridgewater, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three brothers, John, Sam and Harry.
