Note: Alice M. Jacobsen, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at her home in Canova, SD. Alice M. Zulk was born Nov. 16, 1918 to William C. and Amalia (Graese) Zulk at Canova. She grew up and attended school in the Canova area. She married Walter H. Jacobsen on Jan. 6, 1947, at Spencer, SD. They farmed in the Canova area for many years. Her husband died Aug. 11, 1981. Before her marriage, she worked at the local grocery store for four years and worked in aircraft factories in California during World War II. She later worked 19 years as a cook and teachers aide in the Canova School. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Canova Community Club. Her survivors include five sons: LaVerne and his wife Kathy of Morrison, Colo., Terry and his wife Phyllis, Richard and Stuart and his wife Marilyn, all of Canova, SD; and Scott and his wife Valerie of Pierre, SD; one daughter, Linda and her husband Ray Zemlicka of Highmore, SD; 14 grandchildren; and four sisters: Delma and her husband Wally Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; Lois Lundberg of Sioux Falls, SD; Lorna and her husband S.A. Marten of Canova, SD; and Hazel and husband Virgil Gosmire of Canova, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter, three brothers, Robert, Wilmar and Adolph, and an infant sister, Arlene. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Canova, SD. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
