Emil Puthoff: Death: 1984
Note: Friends and relatives of Mrs. Elizabeth Puthoff, who resided north of Salem, SD until about a year ago, learned the sad news of her death last Saturday. She had been ill but a short time and had entered McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls, SD about five days before he death, which occurred Saturday morning, January 17, 1942. Funeral services were conducted at St. Ann�s Catholic church in Humboldt, SD Tuesday morning, the solemn Requiem Mass being read by Rev. Leo Harpenau of Storm Lake, Iowa, nephew of the deceased. He was assisted by Rev P.H. Kolbeck of Farmer, SD, another nephew of Mrs. Puthoff, and Rev. Jag. J. Goggin of Montrose, SD. The funeral sermon was preached by Rt. Rev. Monsignor B. Weber of Salem, SD. The remains were brought to Salem for interment in St. Mary's cemetery by the side of her husband, who passed away four years ago. Salem relatives and friends who were at Humboldt for the funeral services included Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kolbeck, George Kolbeck, Ed and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Kolbeck, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Kolbeck and Marvin. Peter Kolbeck, Louis Kolbeck, Miss Clara Kolbeck, Miss Nell Gstohl, Mr. and Mrs. John Albers and Donald, Miss Kate Albers, Mrs. Clarence Puetz, Mrs. Frank Deters, Francis, Joseph, Ralph and Rosemary, William Deters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Macke and Hilda, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Ahlers, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Rotert, Mr. and Mrs. George Lampe and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Huls, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Glass, and Henry Kuhle. Elizabeth Deters was born on October 3, 1888 at LeMars, Iowa, and died on January 17, 1942 in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 53 years, three months and 11 days. She was married at LeMars on February 3, 1909 to Peter Puthoff. They moved to Salem, SD and lived on a farm northwest of town until Mr. Puthoff�s death, after which Mrs. Puthoff made her home with a son Lawrence, and when the latter moved to the Humboldt community last year she accompanied him. She is survived by her five children, Lawrence, Emil, Alfred, Leroy and Maria; one granddaughter, Georgiana Puthoff; three brothers, John and Anton Deters of LeMars, Iowa; and William of Salem, SD; five sisters, Sister M. Fabian of Mercy Hospital, Waverly, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Harpenau, Mrs. Theresa Ruether and Miss Josephine Deters, all of LeMars, Iowa; and Mrs. Joe Kolbeck of Salem, SD. Other out of town relatives and friends at the last rites were Sister Mary Fabian of Waverly, Iowa; Sister Mary Bingina, Sioux City; Josephine, Anton and John Deters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harpenau, Rita and Al, Mrs. Theresa Ruether, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ruether, Caroline, Gregor, Leo and Frances Freking, Mrs. Ben Freking, John and Joe.
