Note: Salem Special, Salem, South Dakota, Thursday, December 17, 1998 Funeral services for Kenneth J. Knudson were held Monday December 14, 1998 in Salem Lutheran Church, rural Salem, SD. Rev. Jeff Hansen officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Nathan Olinger, Kent Knudson, Collin Knudson, Eric Knudson, Steve Peterson, Larry Lindermann, and Charles Gregg. Kenneth J. Knudson was born July 26, 1924 in rural McCook County near Montrose, SD to Andrew and Ida (Lundgren) Knudson. He grew up in the Salem, SD area, attended country school and graduated from Salem high school in 1941. He married Leona Unzicker at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Spencer, SD on November 9, 1945. He farmed in the Salem-Montrose area all his life. He retired in 1990 and continued to live on the farm north of Salem, SD. Kenny passed away on Thursday December 10, 1998 in Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. He had reached the age of 74 years, 4 months and 14 days. He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, rural Salem, SD serving as a Sunday School teacher and several terms on the church board. He was an avid sports fan and in his younger days loved to play baseball. Survivors include his wife, Leona of Salem, SD; 2 sons, Terry and his wife Teri of Madison, SD; Russell and his wife Delores of Northwood, Iowa; two daughters, Dianne and her husband Gary Kampshoff of Salem, SD; Jennifer and her husband Lyle Swallow of Rosebud, SD; 18 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence and his wife Marie of Huron, SD; and several foster children. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Delbert, Burnell, and Merle.
