a. Note:   Salem Special, Salem, South Dakota June 4, 1998 Funeral services for Irene M. Yost will be held June 4, 1998 in the Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem, SD. Fr. Michael Schneider will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Spencer, SD. Pallbearers will be Craig Yost, Mike Yost, Lee Mentele, Jason Schroeder, Aaron Schroeder, and Doug Haupt. Honorary pallbearers will be Vicki Huls, Kathy Zulk, and Amy Schroeder. Irene M. Schuttler, daughter of Charles and Mathilda (Roth) Schuttler was born April 12, 1921 on a farm near Spencer, SD. She grew up in the Spencer-Farmer, SD area and on November 16, 1940 she married Clarence Yost in Farmer, SD. She lived her entire life in the Spencer-Farmer area where she was owner operator of the Yost Caf´┐Ż in Spencer for many years. She was the first manager of the Bingo Gas Station on I-90 near Spencer and then was employed by Raven Industries in Salem, SD until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spencer, SD of the church Altar Society, of the Spencer, VFW Auxiliary, and of the Fulton-Farmer-Epiphany American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and reading. Her husband died in 1977. Irene died Saturday, May 30, 1998 in Spencer, SD as a result of injuries sustained in the tornado that hit the town of Spencer, SD and killed 6 people. She had reached the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 18 days. Survivors include: one son, Don Yost of Vermillion, SD; two daughters, Mrs. Dick (Karen) Burnham of Spencer, SD; and Mrs. Bryant (Cherie) Schroeder of Spencer, SD; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Harlan Schuttler of Bozeman, Montana; and one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Doris) Haupt of Spencer, SD; and a special friend, Darold Schneider.
