a. Note:   Funeral Mass for Martha A. Gstohl will be held January 27, 2000 in the St. Joseph Cathedral Chapel, Sioux Falls, SD. Fr. John Riedman will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem, SD. Pallbearers will be Tom Colwill, Jim Colwill, Penny Lorang, Bonnie Engle, Gayle Gustafson, and George Kadinger. Martha A. Hicks, daughter of Webster and Edith (Allen) Hicks, was born December 31, 1903 in Delzell, SD. She grew up and went to school in the New Underwood and Delzell communities. On December 26, 1921 she married Matthew Gstohl in Salem, SD. They farmed near Salem. While living in Salem she ran the Variety Store for two years. In 1953 they moved to Hartford and ran a caf´┐Ż there for two years. In 1955 they moved to Sioux Falls, SD and she worked at Buttery's Department Store for two years. Her husband died in 1957. She lived the rest of her life in Sioux Falls. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Salem, SD and a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral of Sioux Falls, SD. Martha loved to play pinochle and bingo. She died on January 25, 2000 at the Avera McKennan Hospice Unit, Sioux Falls, SD. She had reached the age of 96 years and 24 days. Survivors include; three sons, Donavan and wife Karen of Scottsdale, Arizona; Matthew and wife Julia of Texarkana, Texas; and Joseph and wife Linda of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Mary Jane Wise and Florence Colwill and husband Fred all of Sioux Falls, SD; and Lois Kadinger and husband George of Worthington, Minnesota; 32 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.
