Note:   Elsa Marten was born on June 17, 1890 to Herman and Bertha Marten in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up in the Milwaukee area and was married there to August Schulz on Jan. 26, 1907. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Canova, SD area where they farmed. In 1951 they retired from farming and moved into Canova. August passed away in 1968 and Elsa moved into Colonial Manor Nursing Home in 1970 where she lived until her death. She passed away on Dec. 29, 1979. She is survived by 8 daughters, Mrs. Alice Kooistra and Mrs. John (Norma) Bruhn, both of Salem, SD; Irene, Mrs. Lewis Munzke of Wells, Minnesota, Merdlda, Mrs. Carl Drewicz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Phyllis, Mrs. Robert Lewis of Pensacola, Florida; Viola, Mrs. John Keena and Velma Schulz both of Sioux Falls, SD; and Marlys, Mrs. Kenneth Stroebel of Topeka, Kansas; and three sons, Ardell of Sioux Falls, SD; Elmer of Salem, SD; and Ralph of Canova, SD. Other survivors include 46 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Alma Hill of Glenwood City, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, 2 brothers, 1 son, 1 daughter, and 1 granddaughter.
